David rarely writes a blog article for his personal page. He does so when it is truly personal. Most of his blog articles are focused on his work in science and can be found on his other websites.

In the future, you will start to see more blog articles here that related to his artwork and his new personal directions now that he is semi-retired.

de Hilster Launches New Personal Website

Hello everyone! This is David de Hilster and welcome to my new website. After working 40 years in industry, I am now “semi-retired” and entering a new stage of my life. This website reflects that change. Today, I am concentrating my creative efforts in three major areas: AI and NLP, my art, and my dissident science channel.

AI and NLP

Twenty-five years ago, Amnon and I co-authored our “dream programming language” called NLP++ for natural language processing (NLP), an area in computer science that concentrates on computers reading and understanding written text. With the severe limitations of today’s large language models like ChatGPT, industry and universities are now seriously taking a look at this computer programming language as way of creating trustworthy NLP. As a result, I have started a part-time job as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in computer science, am co-authoring a book on NLP++, and leading a new project called the “NLP Blockchain” through the university. Exciting times ahead!

Art

For many years, I promised myself I would get back into art and this website reflects that objective. I have created a gallery of my past works that I have for sale and plan to start doing new art in near future. One of the great coincidences of my professorship at Northeastern University Miami is that it located in the heart of the world-famous Wynwood Art District. This has been very inspiring to me as an artist. I would love to have an art show at the university sometime in the coming years.

I will be adding more art as I go through more of my private collection so come back often to see more works in my gallery.

Dissident Science

Another promise I made myself is to restart my “Dissident Science” YouTube channel. Besides having many people bugging me to bet back on the air, I have come to the conclusion that I have a lot of unique things to say when it comes to science given my 30 years working with brilliant minds outside the mainstream. The channel is for anyone who likes science. Here is my new “trailer” for my channel

A Start Among Superstars

Geoff and Maija Hunter lived among the Malibu stars: the stars in the night sky, the starfish in the ocean, and the mega stars of Hollywood. They are one of the most extraordinary/ordinary couples I have ever met. We lost Geoff this week. A piece of me has gone with this news. But I need to let you know who this extraordinary/ordinary man was. I owe that to him and to all those that loved him.

Gone Ape

Hi Kurt,

Here is the story of the GONE APE trip west—-to the best of my recollection—-it occurred in the summer of 1954, now nearly sixty-four years ago.

Goodbye Mom

All moments in life are unique. But some moments are more permanent and poignant than others.

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 10:30 am in the morning, I found myself alone with my mom, holding and patting her hand, smiling at her, looking straight into her eyes and talking with her, knowing she was slipping away, but still there. There is nothing more intimate than spending the last minutes of one’s life with someone.
